DESCRIPTION:
APW - Ball Hamilton, "Ball's Standard, Railroad Watch Co, Cleveland O" marked mvt and dial, Grade 999E, 17J, 18S, gold-filled OF recase with initial to rear shield, white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, bull's-eye and rosette pattern nickel damascene, s#20663. A rare early Ball Hamilton variant, the 17 jewel "Railroad Watch Co." was made in only a single run of 300 watches spanning serial numbers 20501 to 20800. From the collection of Charlie Winters.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Ticking sluggishly, excess escapement noise in some positions, overhaul recommended, bright lustrous surfaces, scattered fine to micro-fine scratches; dial with faint hl in center section above seconds-register, faint outer chapter hls at 6:30 and 7:30, dial with partially patched edge chip at 1:30 which is largely under bezel, small edge chip under bezel near 9; excellent hands; case shows medium wear, few dings to band and rear, reduced engraving detail; bow pivots freely, crown shows medium wear; glass crystal with small edge chip at left, edge flake at lower right.
